Since beginning my time here at JMU, I've begun to develop my own ways of leading others and myself to reach new heights and overcome obstacles. Not only have I begun giving lessons to middle and high schoolers over the summer in my hometown, I've begun teaching as a percussion instructor for my alma mater and other high schools in the Harrisonburg area. The MUED curriculum at JMU allows me to incorporate and think of more creative and inclusive solutions to problems such as building a new "instrument" for those less comfortable around the topic of music or those unable to play "standard" musical instruments. When I arrive at the time to student teach, I hope to be confident as a leader so that I can be prepared to answer any questions or solve any problems thrown at me. I hope to also encourage those I teach find new and creative ways to think outside of the box and solve any problem thrown at them. |
